The year 2010 marks the 130th anniversary of First Boys’ School

the 45th anniversary of First Language School.

Successor of First Boys’ Public School founded in 1880 in Varna, and accredited as a language school in 1965, First Language School has earned a high reputation in its long-standing tradition of foreign language teaching. Hundreds of the school’s alumni are among the political, economic, intellectual and cultural elite in Bulgaria and many have excelled in their field all over the globe.
First Language School is highly selective. 234 students are admitted annually after passing entrance exams in Bulgarian Language and Literature and Mathematics. Students are divided into five English and four German classes of 26 students each.
First Language School is the foremost school in the region and ranks among the top schools in Bulgaria.

First Language School is a Testing Centre certified by Edexcel, the UK's largest awarding body offering academic and vocational qualifications and testing. First Language School is the only state school in the region authorized to deliver Pearson Test of English – General and Pearson Test of English – Young Learners. The Test Centre, which started operating in 2009, provides both test registration and test administration.

First Language School was the first state school in Varna to fulfil the training and certification requirements for delivery of ETS Internet-based tests and became an authorized ETS TOEFL iBT Test Administration Site. The Test Centre has been in operation since 2007.

In 1995 First Language School became the fourth DSD C1 Centre in Bulgaria. Our students participating in the DSD C1 project have consistently excelled at their final exams in German, which is a valuable asset when they apply to German universities.

First Language School boasts its own sports club. Students can join in many sporting activities such as football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, badminton, chess, swimming and table tennis.
